The role of a Councillor is to consider and promote the well-being and interests of the City by participating in the development and evaluation of City policies and programs and adopting by-laws to ensure the safety, health and well-being of people and the protection of property in the City. What qualifications do I need to run?

In order to qualify as a candidate for municipal council, a person must be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years of age on Election Day
  • a resident of Manitoba
  • a qualified voter of the municipality (has either resided or owned property in the municipality for at least 6 months before Election Day - since April 22, 2014)
  • is not subject to disqualification under The Municipal Act or any other Act.
